First dry run to Matagorda Island
Zoe and I make a dry run to Matagorda Island by kayak to test all of the equipment which is still delayed due to severe weather (this trip was finally cancelled when the time came for the Goose Island trip). Hopefully, we will see some Whooping Cranes along the way.

Matagorda Island - Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD)
The whole of Matagorda Island is a Wildlife Management Area (WMA) maintained by TPWD.
There are no services on the island. However, the last time I was there, there were showers available in the office area next to the campground.
Make sure you bring plenty of water with you (or have a purification system).
The Matagorda Island Lighthouse is worth a visit. The 1852 lighthouse was mentioned in Texas Monthly.
